Used taxi – the perfect runaround

I have always loved to drive, and as I get older I like to collect a variety of different vehicles. There are so many in my garage and driveway now, and they include a wonderful 1957 ambulance, as well as an American police car, which I had specially imported from Detroit in Michigan.
My favourite car of all, though, is a used taxi. It’s a classic London cab, but without the meter. I just love using it as a general runaround. When I play golf at the weekends with my friends, I always turn up at the club in my lovely cab.

The ‘Antipalomas’ man on TV

I recently saw the word ‘Antipalomas’ when on holiday, and I was intrigued to know what it meant. During a recent visit to Spain, I was idly flicking through the channels on TV in the hope of finding something interesting, perhaps a football match or a decent movie, to help me pass a quiet evening in my rented villa.

I couldn’t find anything suitable, but I was amazed to see a man getting extremely agitated when being hassled by a reporter on the street outside what looked like a major public building, perhaps a town hall. He was extremely upset about something, and the caption at the bottom of the screen said his name and the word ‘Antipalomas’.

I asked a Spanish friend the next day, and he told me the word meant Bird Control. The man on TV had been defending his company, which had failed to clear a large flock of pigeons that had settled in the roof alcoves of a local cathedral.
