Gas supply concerns

First it was a lack of grit, now there are concerns that – while Britain suffers from its worst winter in years – gas supplies are said to be running low.

The result is that for only the second time ever, the National Grid has issued a gas balancing alert. This is effectively the Grid asking consumers to go easy on the amount of gas they are using until stock levels can be replenished.

As a result of the alert, energy giant E.ON switched from using their gas power stations to instead make use of coal power.

Keep gas and electricity suppliers separate, or go dual fuel?

Dual fuel is an option with gas and electricity suppliers whereby, rather than having your gas and electricity coming from different suppliers, one company supplies both.

As well as offering you simplicity, you may also save money with this option. Many of the energy providers will offer a discount for taking a dual fuel option.

But it’s worth checking other options, as dual fuel is not always the cheapest when selecting a gas or electricity supplier. There may be separate plans that suit your lifestyle better.

Suppliers offer a variety of payment plans to make sure that there’s a suitable method for everyone to be able to pay their energy bills.
