News stories about energy issues are commonplace
It seems that, in recent years, stories about energy are never far away from the headlines. Whether it’s to do with the cost of domestic gas and electricity, concerns about the effects of using up the world’s natural resources or controversies about the siting of power plants, wind farms and hydro-electric installations, the issue is often in the newspapers and on the television.
While we have come to rely on fossil fuels over the years, the damage caused to the environment has been disastrous. Major corporations, manufacturers and national governments have been frantically searching for a viable alternative energy source, and it seems the clock is ticking ever more quickly. At some point, the supply of usable oil is predicted to end.
Hitting the road with alternative energy
Electric cars are perhaps the most likely to replace traditional petrol vehicles in the long run. They’re clean and efficient, and can of course be recharged when not in use. Over the last few years, their performance has been called into question, although it should be pointed out that recent developments have allayed many fears about that.
Siting power stations and green energy installations
The positioning of power stations has always been a controversial issue, with local residents regularly protesting and forming action groups, in the hope that it will be sited elsewhere. Even modern wind farms are often unwanted, mainly due to noise issues. National and local governments are often under intense pressure when decisions are due to be made about locations.
